THE BOOK
A Photographic Journey Through Venice
Venice is a place between times. A city that changes and yet always seems to remain the same. Venice - Entre Deux Souffles is more than a photographic book about one of the most extraordinary cities in the world. It is a personal journey through Venice - through quiet alleyways, reflective canals, light and shadow, architecture and emptiness. The photographs speak of closeness and distance, of what remains when someone is no longer there, and of memories that find a space of their own. Between past and present, a visual journey unfolds, deliberately leaving room for the viewer’s own perception.
A book about Venice. A book about memory. A book about a love that continues to live in the unseen.

A GLIMPSE INTO THE BOOK
Paths Through Venice
From my extensive archive, I selected around 100 photographs. I didn’t want to simply arrange my best images one after another; instead, I wanted to shape the book as a movement through Venice. The sequence largely follows the course of a walk through the city - across squares, through narrow alleyways, along the canals, and eventually out to the surrounding islands. In this way, the book is intended not only to present photographs, but to offer a journey through Venice. And of course, you may lose your way along the way - after all, that is part of Venice.
Alongside the geographical journey, there is also a personal one: the time before, with, and after Ben. Grief forms an invisible thread throughout the book - present in images, memories, places, and emotions. Some of the photographs were experienced or taken together with Ben; others have become intrinsically connected to him over time. They have therefore taken on an additional layer and are paired with multi-line poems of mourning. Texts about longing, memory, closeness, and absence - and about the strange feeling that someone can be infinitely far away and yet somehow be everywhere at once.

A CONTRIBUTION TO HOPE
For Ben - and for everyone who is fighting
With many memories and the wish to give hope, I am donating 5% of the book’s proceeds to the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation. The foundation supports medical research and helps pave the way for new possibilities of treatment and healing. More information: www.carreras-stiftung.de

FINAL THOUGHT
This book was created out of love.
Out of memory.
And out of the hope that even in silence, something remains that can carry us.
If these images can offer a moment of peace, then this book has fulfilled its purpose.
